Betty Thomas Patterson grew up in Thibodaux, Louisiana. She received a B.S. degree from Nicholls State University and a MEd. degree from Southern University and A&M College. She and her husband currently live in Oxnard, California.  She has been a teacher, counselor, and department chair.  She was inspired to write this book because she thinks more students would attend college if it is introduced to young readers.
